It then fails to cushion vertebrae correctly and can result in either nerve pain or muscle pain. Most people think of back pain when they think of herniated discs, but there are a wide range of symptoms that can come from this condition.
Pain from herniated discs is generally divided into two categories: nerve pain and soft tissue pain. Nerve pain is caused by compression of the spinal cord or nerves branching off from it. Soft tissue pain results from stress that is placed on the area around the herniated disc. This often results from a misalignment of the spine due to the disc not functioning as it is supposed to.
