4 Simple Ways to Improve Your Nutrition

nutrition tips from Sewell chiropractor.jpgJust as chiropractic treatment can aid all aspects of your health, nutrition plays an impactful role in your overall health and wellness. From maintaining a healthy weight to supporting immune function and muscle growth, you quite literally are what you eat. Here are some tips to help you eat your way to better health, courtesy of Eulo Chiropractic Center:

1. Keep "junk food" out of your pantry. Highly processed foods, ranging from bagged snacks to packaged "dinners," are one of the reasons we are seeing an increase in national obesity, which in turn contributes to diabetes, hypertension, kidney/liver problems and other disorders. Watch out for additives, preservatives, and sugars such as high fructose corn syrup, opting instead for fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meats.

2. Go for color. Add as many brightly-colored fruits and vegetables to your diet as possible to promote a healthy lifestyle. These foods are rich in antioxidants, substances that help prevent cell damage, premature cell death and possibly even some cancers. They are also packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber.

3. Drink water. Water is necessary for life, and plays a role in practically every physical function. Hunger pangs can actually be triggered by the need for more water. Water-rich fruits and vegetables once again prove their worth in this department.

4. Eat several small meals. Concentrating your caloric intake on one or two big meals puts a strain on your body’s digestive processes, and it may also allow more unhealthy fats to collect on artery walls. Eating several small meals a day reduces this burden while also staving off the temptation to snack on unhealthy things.
